5 Panel Drug Tests
5 Panel Drug Tests
There are many kinds of at home drug tests. Which kind of sampling is needed and whether you need a 5 panel drug test can be determined simply and easily. Just follow the simple steps below to get started. First things first. What is a 5 panel test? The “test” part is pretty self explanatory. The word “panel” refers to the number of different drugs than can be tested with one home testing kit. While there are some single panel drug tests for substances such as caffeine or Rohypnol, most at home medication tests will screen for more than one kind of substance. You now need to ask yourself some questions to narrow the selection. 1. “What kind of chemicals do I want to test for?” Testing for all types of substances, including prescription medications, alcohol, nicotine and the ever widening selection of designer drugs is both time consuming and expensive. For parents and employers alike, the most worrisome are those that are illegal. As a parent, you might want to know if your child is drinking alcohol or smoking cigarettes but you are probably more concerned with the use of illegal products such as marijuana, cocaine, amphetamines, phencyclidine and opiates such as heroin. In fact, these drugs comprise the vast majority of illegal drug use in the country. Start with this kind of 5 panel drug test. You can always upgrade from there to other multi-panel home tests if you need to. 2. “What kind of sampling procedure can I use?” There are two basic types of at home drug tests that include a minimum 5 panel drug test. Some tests can be completed from start to finish in the privacy of your own home. These so-called instant drug tests use a sample of saliva or urine which give immediate results. Instant drug tests are great if you have the cooperation of the person you want to test, or can insist upon their active involvement. This is most often the case with employer mandatory substance abuse testing. However, parents may have a more difficult time convincing their teenager to submit to saliva or urine sampling. This is where you have another option. A hair sample test can be done with any hair sample that contains part of the follicle. The downside of the hair sample test is that the sample must be sent to an outside lab to complete the analysis so it can’t be considered an instant drug test. For this reason, it is also more expensive. But, on the positive side, hair sampling is considered the gold standard of this kind of screening because of its ability to reveal long term drug use. The instant 5 panel drug tests will show positive for only two to five days.
